About
My Work
I'm currently working at Twitter and have worked at Verizon/Yahoo/Brightroll as well. At Twitter, I've worked to spin up Data teams (Science & Engineering) as well as design and execute against a vision to make our Revenue organisation data-driven. We've come far and I'm now focusing more on our ML stack and looking to bring the same benefits.
Prior to my rebirth in tech, I was a researcher working for Fujitsu in a number of domains covering solid state physics, analogue electronics, computer storage and electromagnetics.
My Interests
I think my interests tend to be durable (long-lasting) but cyclical (the amount of time I spend on them periodically waxes and wanes). There are a few consistent themes that I've found in the past several years around management science, product management and information science on the meta side of things. All things data + ML and full stack are a common area of investment. I'm really fascinated by the tight integration of engineering, data, product, sales and G&A skills needed for success in tech companies especially startups.
While I'm not part of the FIRE crew, I do have an active interest in the financial independence. I also fancy myself a reasonable photographer (mostly wildlife and landscape) and a reasonable contractor (i.e. I build parts of houses - never done a house from the ground up... yet).
I'm likely missing much from my self-assessed interests above. Broadly I enjoy learning most anything from compelling people and story tellers.
My Two Truths and a Lie
Context: Twitter's onboarding programme has this great icebreaker where everyone shares three statements of which one is a lie. The goal is for others to guess the lie.
- I was once an altar boy who at one point decided to "wing it" during services
- My first in-real-life 7-11 experience was in Japan despite living in the US for several years prior
- The only time I did a winter sport was when I lived in a part of the world that would sooner see a nuclear winter over a natural one
Chatting with Me
I'm generally gregarious and enjoy connecting with folks in earnest. I feel that good connections between people come from a bidirectional conversation – it doesn't need to be transactional or overtly value-focused but it should be genuine, well intentioned and friendly.
Feel free to reach out to me on Twitter at @PradipOnEarth: I'll respond.
The Name: Yes, And
A while back I come across the concept of a yes, and. It broadly premises that one should focus on being as constructive as possible – premising that most anything said has some positive value and it is our onus to fold that knowledge with ours to improve value. I've spent a lot of time folding it into my day-to-day, so much so that folks at work created a Slack reaction of the phrase, and has become a catch phrase for myself.
